Samuels Fest

Am 23. August 2008 feiern wir ein Fest für Samuel im Odenwald an der Irrbach Quelle.



Treffpunkt ist am Parkplatz, dann marschieren wir mit Sack und Pack in den Wald.


















In der Hütte gibt es eine Stärkung

Vom Regen lassen wir uns nicht abschrecken. Für Samuel werden Gedichte rezitiert und Lieder gesungen....







































Zuletzt zünden alle eine Kerze für Samuel an, die wir im Quellbecken schwimmen lassen....

First word

S & K are getting ready for a trip to Germany for several days. So we'll have a bon voyage posting for them.

Samuel is in a new school (day-care) and now seems to really enjoy it. It has been a life-style adjustment for him, but he seems to be coming around and enjoying his days painting and playing.

Back at home, Samuel's latest loves are corn-on-the-cob and potatoes, ranking right up there with reading books and throwing things. Apropos the last, we have a video (for the first time in ages) to show the little guy in action. Probably the most notable thing is his attraction to the bilingual word "ball"

Here are some bonus pics of Samuel on a campus trip in which he helped papa with wrapping up his dissertation. He is sporting his cool shirt sent by our friend Julia O from Venice Arsenal - they make custom designed shirts and every single shirt has a unique design.

Allgäu im August

Mittlerweile sind wir wieder gut in Cambridge angekommen. Samuel geht seit Anfang der Woche zur Henry Buckner School und hat heute zum ersten Mal dort Mittagsschlaf ohne elterliche Hilfe gemacht - kein Problem! Für die Eltern gibt's keinen Mittagsschlaf, sondern Semesteranfang am Wellesley College. Der Campus im Spätsommer ist wunderschön, mit stillem See und sonnendurchflutetem Wald, und Karola hat eine kleine Kirchenorgel in ihrem Büro.
Hier aber nun einige Fotos von unserem kurzen und sehr feinen Urlaub im Allgäu mit Antje und Ute. Bis zum nächsten Mal!

Ohio in July

After a full day of airports and airplanes we arrived in Cleveland for the Young Composers Program where P & K were teaching for a week. Samuel survived mainly by playing with his Grandma (notice a pattern developing here?). He also hung out at faculty meetings and found inventive ways to get half-eaten food on his parents' dress clothes.

Back at Grandma and Grandpa's house in Mt.Vernon there were lots of new toys to play with


and we took advantage of great weather to take a walk. Sam enjoyed some of it.


One of life's pleasures is certainly playing in the backyard with Grandma!

as you can see, he ultimately ventured off on his own.




"What do you mean 'DON'T PUT THAT STICK IN YOUR MOUTH', Grandma? I didn't do anything. See?"

Europa im Juli

Since we've been on the move we've been blog-negligent, but we'll try to catch up on the basic movements in a two-part July series. We began in Eberstadt at Oma and Opa's house, having a good time catching up with the family during several festive get-togethers. Unfortunately we don't have everyone photographed, but we do have a few shots. Here is Samuel playing with his cousins and his Aunt Bini and Uncle Hatti...


Samuel also likes to follow Opa around, especially when cell-phones are involved!

Then we were on to Metz and Aix-en-Provence to get properly Frenchified.

(notice the Crepe joint! Très bien!)

As always, we wouldn't have survived without the daily care donated by Oma!!


Opa also joined us in Metz to partake in baguettes and the lovely streets.


Eventually they got us packed up and off to Luxembourg to catch a plane to the US.


So we'll pick up there next post.
