Weekend with Sam

Sam and I hung out in Weimar for the weekend and hit the museum circuit visiting Goethe's house

Goethe's workroom is colored green because of his version of color theory

We also visited the Historical Cemetery and Sam gave me a tour of the things he had learned about on a history-class field trip.

I was excited to see the Hummel gravesite.

Currently there is Euro Championship fever here and we took in a showing downtown

We also did a day following Nietzsche sites like the Archive and the big exhibit at the Neues Museum.  Sam is certainly more up on it than I am.

He aspires to be like him, not so much in world outlook but more in the mustache department.  He still has a ways to go.

Anyway, we saw lots of fun art as well at the various places and a lot of Art Noveau design and architecture (especially Henry van de Velde)

Sam's Weimar Birthday

We ate out on Sam's birthday eve at Goethe's favorite Weimar restaurant "Zum weißen Schwan" and Emma and I went back out later to get some "fruit"
Emma and I stayed at a nice place close to the Belvedere and enjoyed the beautiful walk up to the Schloss and the Schloss gardens.

You may notice that Emma likes trying to climb things.  Sam showed off the nice Belvedere Cafe frequented by all the tourists there.

Later Emma and I cruised the downtown of Weimar (captured below in a very cool sculptured model of the town).  And Sam was done practicing he brought us to Creperie du Palais for dinner.  Less historical but just as tasty.

We had presents back at the Ferienwohnung and Sam was excited to get a nice new shirt and a Frederick the Great biography and of course Bruckner CDs.  When the Bruckner showed up he immediately had to dive into the booklet--some pretty strong Grandpa Bert vibes.
